57th Street Station

The permanent installation, Metropolitan Faces, commissioned by the MTA Arts & Design and NYC Transit Authority, opened to the public in December 2019.  Located in mezzanine level of the 57th Street and Sixth Avenue subway, the 19 brilliantly hued, laminated glass panels, created by Glasmalerie Peters Studio in German, span two sides of the 100 ft. corridor and are installed within the cast stone panels that line the station walls. The complex process of fabrication involved color matching exisiting Katz paintings, then hand painting the images in reverse on the glass sheets.
